A very rare pre-commercial 18kt rose Gold Omega Ref. 2850SC for the XVI Olympic games Melbourne in 1956. Omega had produced approximately 100 pieces of these prototypes prior. These were seen with variations on the Cross of Merit where the Olympic rings were either of a single colour (the one on sale) or in 5 different colours on the dial. An example of this Ref. 2850SC with the Medal of Merit and Olympic Rings in one colour was auctioned by Sotheby’s in 19th April 2010. This was the dial before the major changes were made with the Order of Merit emblem being replaced by the Roman XVI commercial model. The original early dial version, without minute track , features lozenge appliqué markers and Dauphine shaped hands. The 18kt rose gold case in excellent condition has a snap back a domed crystal and the fancy “Frog Leg” lugs The movement is the Omega Caliber 471 automatic movement, 19 jewels, in order working condition, the watch comes with the Omega box as pictured and Omega extract.
